Alongside, Together, in Tandem

Year Completed: 2023
Dimensions: 6 x 6 x .75”
I began embroidering this piece while my mom drove us to visit my 92-year old grandma Mimi, who inspired my quilt, Mimi, Mimi, Mimi. I shared about her in a recent conversation that you can watch on YouTube.
Mimi is a huge reason why I’m a quilter, and she began to have dementia just as I got serious about quilting. Ten years later, I visited her while making this quilt, and she asked, “I made quilts? Imagine that.” While I began this piece intuitively, I believe it reveals something beautiful about what she’s passed on to me, and it’s quilted with a subtle bridge.

Make your own Framed Quilt with my On-Demand class:
The ‘Soft Bulk’ of a quilt is extraordinary! Quilts can squish into backpacks and unfurl into art galleries, but sometimes there’s a thrill in stretching them taught, just like a painting. This workshop will teach you to use a wooden frame and staples to display your quilt ‘stretched canvas style.’
Learn a variety of techniques like layering, patchwork, quilt-as-you-go, embroidery, and freeform applique, in a fun, quick-finish project that you can scale up as desired. This is one of my most popular classes and a great introduction to both quiltmaking and my teaching style.
These Framed Quilts and this class both make great gifts!
