This is the very first quilt that I ever stretched on a frame. I remember driving in my car when I realized that I should trim the quilt down and add a fabric ‘frame’ pieced with the courthhouse steps pattern method for adding fabric.

Make your own Framed Quilt with my On-Demand class:
The ‘Soft Bulk’ of a quilt is extraordinary! Quilts can squish into backpacks and unfurl into art galleries, but sometimes there’s a thrill in stretching them taught, just like a painting. This workshop will teach you to use a wooden frame and staples to display your quilt ‘stretched canvas style.’
Learn a variety of techniques like layering, patchwork, quilt-as-you-go, embroidery, and freeform applique, in a fun, quick-finish project that you can scale up as desired. This is one of my most popular classes and a great introduction to both quiltmaking and my teaching style.
These Framed Quilts and this class both make great gifts!
