In 2012, my favorite medium for making art was painting. I would wear gloves while I painted, and the residue on my brush is a side effect of doing the work, and residual proof of my color choices and time spent painting. In 2022, my favorite medium is quilting, and the ball jars that I fill with thread scraps and trimming are again residual proof of my repeated efforts. Scraps remind me of the full impact of my actions. I did not intend to wear out this brush or make piles of thread tidbits, yet here they are: evidence of my color choices, my repeated actions, and a tendency to hold on to art remnants as I dream of a zero waste creative practice.
