Transparency Study no. 1
Transparency Study no. 1
Materials: mixed textiles, silk organza, hand pieced, hand quilted, stretched
Year Completed: 2024
Dimensions: 6 x 6 x .75”
I began this quilt in 2018, and then got distracted for 6 years. It celebrates a layering technique that I like to think of as ‘making a ghost,’ inspired by the way that painters can wipe or scrape away paint to reveal evidence of an absence.
In memory of John Parkes, 1948-2018

Make your own Framed Quilt with my On-Demand class:
The ‘Soft Bulk’ of a quilt is extraordinary! Quilts can squish into backpacks and unfurl into art galleries, but sometimes there’s a thrill in stretching them taught, just like a painting. This workshop will teach you to use a wooden frame and staples to display your quilt ‘stretched canvas style.’
Learn a variety of techniques like layering, patchwork, quilt-as-you-go, embroidery, and freeform applique, in a fun, quick-finish project that you can scale up as desired. This is one of my most popular classes and a great introduction to both quiltmaking and my teaching style.
These Framed Quilts and this class both make great gifts!
