My mom found this fabric at a garage sale in Florida, and it’s said to be an authentic vintage block print of waves. The piece is titled for the famous work: Under the Wave off Kanagawa. This quilt is improvisationally machine pieced and hand quilted with sea-foam colored thread. The back is delicately finished with hand stitches and ‘quilting tacks.’ The other fabrics are hand dyed by me, with a cotton muslin frame. My signature is hand embroidered.

Make your own Framed Quilt with my On-Demand class:
The ‘Soft Bulk’ of a quilt is extraordinary! Quilts can squish into backpacks and unfurl into art galleries, but sometimes there’s a thrill in stretching them taught, just like a painting. This workshop will teach you to use a wooden frame and staples to display your quilt ‘stretched canvas style.’
Learn a variety of techniques like layering, patchwork, quilt-as-you-go, embroidery, and freeform applique, in a fun, quick-finish project that you can scale up as desired. This is one of my most popular classes and a great introduction to both quiltmaking and my teaching style.
These Framed Quilts and this class both make great gifts!
