Preferred, Beloved, Favorite
Materials: Scraps from many of my favorite fabrics, linen fabric, cotton thread, hand pieced and hand quilted, stretched on a wooden frame.
Year Completed: 2023
Dimensions: 6 x 6 x .75”
These fabrics are featured importantly in many of my quilts, including: But, Was That Me?; A Breath Has Four Parts; Meuse, Pandemic, Invisible, Sweetheart.
I began with a quilt-as-you-go approach to piecing this quilt, but ultimately hand quilted it too! The yellow polkadot was a skirt, the green was a hand-me-down dress that I turned into a shirt, the stripe was used to mend jeans for Beau, the yellow grid was a ‘fat quarter’ given to me by my brother, and I’ve used it while teaching with Creativebug and in my vases.

Make your own Framed Quilt with my On-Demand class:
The ‘Soft Bulk’ of a quilt is extraordinary! Quilts can squish into backpacks and unfurl into art galleries, but sometimes there’s a thrill in stretching them taught, just like a painting. This workshop will teach you to use a wooden frame and staples to display your quilt ‘stretched canvas style.’
Learn a variety of techniques like layering, patchwork, quilt-as-you-go, embroidery, and freeform applique, in a fun, quick-finish project that you can scale up as desired. This is one of my most popular classes and a great introduction to both quiltmaking and my teaching style.
These Framed Quilts and this class both make great gifts!
