I love sewing chairs! They can be seen in many of my Diary Quilts, and in my Love Letter quilt pattern. This is an imagined chair, the cushion is made with ribbon from a shopping bag I received in Japan in 2024, and the background is fabric that I saw being woven on the same trip. The frame is made with pants given to me by a Pfister employee during my time as Artist in Residence at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI.

Make your own Framed Quilt with my On-Demand class:
The ‘Soft Bulk’ of a quilt is extraordinary! Quilts can squish into backpacks and unfurl into art galleries, but sometimes there’s a thrill in stretching them taught, just like a painting. This workshop will teach you to use a wooden frame and staples to display your quilt ‘stretched canvas style.’
Learn a variety of techniques like layering, patchwork, quilt-as-you-go, embroidery, and freeform applique, in a fun, quick-finish project that you can scale up as desired. This is one of my most popular classes and a great introduction to both quiltmaking and my teaching style.
These Framed Quilts and this class both make great gifts!
